I have 2 poems in the latest issue of Foglifter. I’ve been riding this high for months and will be annoying about it for at least another year. And now it’s finally out!
Foglifter was one of the first print journals I ever read, and definitely the first queers-only one. It’s also the first one I remember encountering that wasn’t affiliated with an MFA program. It introduced me to some of my favorite contemporary poets, many of whom go on to publish impossibly chic collections with matte covers and impressive blurbs on the back. And then their author bio page is always like, “[name] has published poems in [popular journal], [quirky journal], [ridiculously hard-to-get-into journal], and Foglifter.”
I am now And Foglifter
also. I have conned my way in.
“No worries!” starts with the minutiae of having a wishy-washy spine and then kind of spirals from there:
Points if you can spot the self-indulgent Royal Tenenbaums reference.
The other poem they took, “Alternates,” is a weird repetitive prose poem that’s kind of an inverse of this one. It’s also [tucks hair behind ears] very vulnerable! I am not posting it here, partly so you will buy Foglifter and partly because it is embarrassing. But I like how the two pieces work together.
This issue also has a fantastic handfeel and is pleasantly chunky. 150+ pages of fiction and poetry and all kinds of stuff from over 30 writers. Excellent bang for your buck.1 You can buy it here.
You should also try these, especially if you are tired of my poems
“Boyfriend Poppet” by Robin Gow (also in this volume of Foglifter)
THE PRIMITIVE ACCUMULATION OF REALNESS by Amalia Tenuta (scroll down, but I’ve really been enjoying Dead Mall Press in general)
Eretz: Jewish Poems for Palestine by Leo Rose Rodriguez
now considering making Home Shopping Network-style videos where I exclusively talk about journals and ever-more-niche zines.
POINT!!!! ROYAL TENENBAUMS REFERENCE!!!!! this is hella good stuff, well done on making it in :D also unironically would love a home shopping network video thing abt indie publishing. if you ever need an editor proficient in 80s tv effects 🙈
