the_bitch_is_back.mp3, am I right? These are the first poems I’ve published since BOY BAND came out earlier this year. I’ve been experimenting with submitting things less frequently, or at least during smaller windows of time.
While I like this approach, it increases my risk of publishing a handful of absolute freakazoid pieces in somewhat rapid succession. And that’s what’s happening over the next couple months, starting off with these 3 ditties in Corporeal.
Corporeal is an impeccable lit mag centered around ~embodiment~ that honestly feels too cool for me. They were also nice enough to let me use my questionable self-portrait as my author pic. I gave myself Ronald McDonald-red eyebrows.
Here’s a quick rundown of these new poems, including some ideal drink pairings! If you’re tired of poems by me (valid), skip to the end for some non-me recs.
Pond Bitch
Stylish vengeance and owning your girlboss monsterhood! This came out grosser and more aggro than I originally planned, but I had fun.
Drink pairing: Ceremonial-grade matcha, slightly oversteeped, cooled to room temp
Kitty Figure Purple ***GORGEOUS***
They say to kill your darlings, and this title is a darling I’ve killed and resurrected on an endless loop since 2019. It’s from the title of an eBay listing I came across while searching for a My Pretty Kitty, which is like a My Little Pony but cat.
As is my wont, I spent the next 3 years trying to shoehorn this phrase into a poem. Devastating news for my haters, it finally worked! (If you consider this “working.”)
Bonus points if you recognize the kind-of-nasty bastardization of a famous Mary Oliver line 👀
Drink pairing: Taro boba smoothie with a float of Chambord
aftershower
Well, well, well, if it isn’t a sprawling love letter to my friends in the form of bad knock-knock jokes!
If you know me, you know I’m a huge fan of repetition, as well as some lite sad-boy hours, so I really indulged myself here.
Drink pairing: No-sugar-added coconut water (electrolytes <3)
